The Authentic Creative: expanding our capacity to feel good
Recovering You with Lillian Cohanzad
In this episode I stand in dialogue with author, coach, and community builder Lillian Cohanzad about what it really looks like to recover a sense of self in the middle of fires, motherhood, and big life transitions. We meet her between Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, in a year that asked her to let go of a beloved home, a town, and the school her 3 children attended when the Palisades fires came through.
Lillian shares what it meant to grow up as the eldest daughter in an immigrant family, carrying stories of loss and resilience from her mother’s erased Nicaraguan hometown, and how that lineage helped her remember that what we truly keep is our character, care, and connection. We talk about Catholic roots, converting to Judaism, your Buddhist language of human revolution, her path from commercial real estate into women’s circles and retreats, and the way she blends neuroscience, moon talk, and breathwork to bring women back to themselves.
In this episode we explore
• How losing a neighborhood and school in the Palisades fires reshaped Lillian’s sense of home, safety, and identity
• The evolution from all girls school retreats and sorority leadership into living room moon circles and return to you retreats
• The creation of the WeNatal Guided Journal and how daily gratitudes, dream lists, and loving thoughts can support fertility, pregnancy, and partnership
• Lillian’s experience of breathwork, shadow work, and parenting 3 children through grief while still letting them feel the fullness of their emotions
• The reality of retreat leadership, why she needs quiet days to recover, and the courage it takes to share honest writing on her Substack, The Great Unfolding
